Movement in Volos Restricted as Storm 'Elias' Strikes, Prompting School Closures

Movement in Volos has been prohibited due to the storm "Elias," resulting in the closure of all schools for two days.

Residents of the broader Volos area received a message via 112, informing them of the restrictions on their movement due to the development of dangerous weather phenomena within the storm front "Elias."

Volos Mayor Achilleas Beos urged citizens not to venture out for safety reasons and to support the efforts of emergency crews in a video posted on Facebook.

Beos expressed his concern: "Unfortunately, the worst-case scenarios for the impact of the new severe weather on our city are confirmed."

The police have already implemented road closures and called on citizens to cooperate and follow authorities' instructions. Beos emphasized the importance of staying put for personal safety and facilitating the challenging work of emergency crews.

According to gegonota.Heavy rainfall has caused significant issues in the city centre, impacting various streets and areas, including Papadiamantis Street, 2nd November, Lambraki, Nea Ionia, the Customs junctions, and the Town Hall. Power outages are reported in numerous areas, and factories are experiencing flooding in the VIE district, leading to growing concerns.

Mayor Achilleas Beos has announced the closure of all schools at all levels throughout the wider Volos area on Thursday and Friday due to the severe weather conditions.
