Erdoğan's grand delusion of the "Century of Türkiye" - It wasn't long ago he threw tea at hungry people

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan throwing tea

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has a grand delusion for the "Century of Türkiye", but it wasn't long ago he was throwing tea at hungry citizens.

The Turkish president said on May 31, "the Century of Türkiye is a comprehensive roadmap that will raise our country above the level of contemporary civilisations."

He has grand delusions of raising Turkey, within this century, to "above the level of contemporary civilisations," but he is often condescending towards hungry citizens and pretends they are exaggerating.

In this video from October 2020 in Malatya, Erdoğan said, "Don't exaggerate" to the citizens who said, "we are hungry." He then threw "tea" at them...

Fast forward three years and has the situation in Turkey improved much from Covid times?

The hunger threshold in Turkey reached 13,334 Turkish liras ($486) in September 2023, surpassing the minimum wage (11,402 liras, $416) three months in a row, data from the Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (Türk-İş) revealed, reported Duvar.

Turkey's poverty threshold increased to 43,433 liras ($1,584) in September, four times the minimum wage.

Kitchen inflation rose by 9.31% on a monthly basis, surged by 84.04% over the past 12 months, and soared to a yearly increase of 106.8%.

From January 2021 to September 2023, the monthly food expenditure for a family of four has increased by 5-fold.

Based on 200 grams of white bread sold for seven liras, the monthly bread cost for a family of four was 735 liras in September.

The union stated, ''The increase in indirect taxes, and the gradual rise in income tax rates in recent months have further eroded the income of wage earners.''

But the Turkish president and his supporters believe this is the "Century of Türkiye" where Turkey will be raised "above the level of contemporary civilisations."
