CHICAGO(October 16, 2023)—The National Hellenic Museum (NHM) in Chicago’s Greektown neighbourhood was honoured to welcome His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America to the museum last Friday, October 12, for a tour of current exhibitions, including the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America's centennial exhibitLegacy, Renewal & Unity: Celebrating 100 Years of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, which is on display now through February 11, 2024, as part of NHM’s ongoing commitment to the Greek American community.
Archbishop Elpidophoros was accompanied at the museum by NHM Board of Trustees Chairman John P. Calamos, Sr. and NHM Board of Trustees Executive Committee members Demetrios (Jim) Logothetis, Yanni Sianis, Peter Parthenis and Kenneth Kondraros.
During the visit, His Eminence toured the entire museum, providing him with the opportunity to witness captivating works by Greek American artists, including the sculpture exhibition Hellenic Heads by George Petrides and the photography exhibition Gather Together: Chicago Street Photography by Diane Alexander White, as well as NHM’s permanent exhibition Reaching for the American Dream: The Greek Story in America. Finally, Archbishop Elpidophoros toured the new exhibition Legacy, Renewal & Unity: Celebrating 100 Years of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, which includes the special exhibit Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate: Protecting the Future of Faith. Last year, members of the Greek Orthodox church and community came together to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Archdiocese (1922-2022), the legacy of the church and the breadth of the organization’s impact.
The exhibit was designed to help people from both within and outside the Greek community understand and celebrate the history of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and offers a multi-media experience incorporating audio, video, and physical artifacts from the Archdiocese archives.
Legacy, Renewal & Unity: Celebrating 100 Years of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America is on view at the National Hellenic Museum (333 S. Halsted Street, Chicago) now through February 11, 2024. The museum is open Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tickets are $10 and include admission to all exhibits, with special discounts available for seniors, students and children.

The Legacy, Renewal & Unity exhibit was made possible through a generous grant from Leadership 100 to the Archdiocese’s Centennial Committee, which also provided the funding for its presence in Chicago. The exhibit was conceived, created and produced by a collaborative team from the Archdiocese and A. Stein Production, Inc. of New York City. It is displayed at NHM as part of the museum’s commitment to the Greek-American community.
