Unusual Autumn Heatwave Sweeps Greece, Pushing Temperatures 6 Degrees Above Average

Greece is about to experience a taste of summer right in the heart of autumn, with temperatures expected to soar up to 6 degrees Celsius above the typical seasonal average over the next few days.

This unseasonal warmth is the result of warm air masses making their way from Africa to the Balkans and the southeastern Mediterranean in the coming days, leading to a significant increase in temperatures. These higher temperatures are expected to persist until the middle of the following week.

Prognostic data from the National Observatory of Athens/meteo.gr reveals that the temperature at an altitude of 850 hPa (approximately 1500 meters above the surface) at noon on both Friday and Saturday will be 13-14 degrees higher than the usual seasonal norms. This translates to temperatures that are 10-12 degrees Celsius above the seasonal averages.
