Greek Ambassador to New Delhi Dimitrios Ioannou said at an ORF event that Greece would “never be friends” with India’s enemies, explaining that Athens has many differences with Beijing, including the Taiwan issue.
According to WION correspondent Sidhant Sibal, the Greek ambassador said that ties will strengthen, pointing to “cultural and ideological similarities between the two civilisations” of Greece and India.
The ambassador explained to participants at the New Delhi-based think tank event that Greece was in a deep economic crisis twelve years ago, which allowed China to buy the Port of Piraeus when it was privatised.
However, he confirmed that Greece is “not close to China on issues like Taiwan.”
