Spanish Hackers announce 'death' of Greek President via mainstream media

North Korean hackers have attacked a Greek mainstream media outlet's Twitter (X) account through which they announced the 'death' of the Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou - mistakenly also referring to her as 'Prime Minister'.

The media outlet, Proto Thema is one of Greece's largest and highest circulating and is still, at the time of publication, in a tussle with the hackers who have taken control of their social media account.

Meanwhile, there is no direct evidence of the hackers' origin, but the North Korean flag at the end of the article, but all posts are in Spanish.

The announcement reads: " It is with great regret that we announce the death of Prime Minister Katerina Sakellaropoulou, who suffered a heart attack—our warmest condolences to her friends and family.

The fake news post has since been removed from the Proto Thema X account.
