Less than two hours into its transatlantic journey from Newark Liberty International Airport to Athens International Airport, an Emirates Boeing 777-300ER, registered A6-EBQ, encountered technical issues. The decision to divert to Boston’s Logan International Airport was made, with the aircraft arriving in Boston five hours after departure.

The flight crew noted an equipment failure, and at the time of the incident, the 16-year-old aircraft was approximately 100 nautical miles off the coast of Newfoundland in Canada. After a gradual descent and a return over Canadian airspace, the aircraft landed safely in Boston at 05:20 EST on runway 04R.

The specific nature of the equipment failure remains undisclosed, and Emirates has not yet commented on the incident. Passengers were accommodated on alternative Emirates flights, and the aircraft departed for Dubai International Airport the following morning.

“Affected passengers of Emirates flight EK210 from Newark to Dubai (via Athens) have been rebooked on the next available flights to continue their journey. Emirates apologises for the inconvenience caused. The safety of our passengers and crew is of the utmost importance and will not be compromised.”
