1st place for Greece in hotel satisfaction - Record number of international arrivals

Greece placed first in hotel satisfaction for the first time.

In the January-October period, 23 million international air arrivals were recorded in Greece, showing an increase of 11.5% or 2.4 million arrivals compared to the same period in 2022. Compared to the January-October 2019 period, the increase in arrivals is estimated at 12%. The relevant data are included in the monthly Statistical Bulletin of the Institute of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (INSETE).

Also, in the 10th month, 6.3 million international air arrivals were recorded at Athens International Airport, showing an increase of 1.4 million (+28.4%).

It was followed by the airport of Thessaloniki, where 2.1 million international air arrivals were recorded, showing an increase of 355,000 (+20.3%). In October, 2 million arrivals were recorded, showing a rise of 11% compared to the same month in 2022 and 24.5% compared to October 2019.

In terms of domestic arrivals at the country's main airports in the January-October period, 7.8 million air arrivals were recorded compared to 6.6 million in the corresponding period of 2022, showing an increase of 19.4% (+1, 3 million). In October, there were 830,000 arrivals, recording a rise of 16.5% (+118,000).

Road arrivals are also on the rise.

In 10 months, 9.5 million international road arrivals were recorded, compared to 7.2 million in 2022, showing an increase of 33.1% (+2.4 million) and a decrease of 14.4% compared to 2019.

In October, 544,000 arrivals were recorded, showing an increase of 2% (+11,000) compared to last year and a decrease of 38.5% compared to 2019.

In January-October, an increase was recorded from all neighbouring countries about the corresponding period of 2022. In particular, the most significant increase both in absolute differences and in percentage differences was recorded by Bulgaria by 1.5 million (+57, 1%).

In contrast, 4.2 million road arrivals were recorded, followed by Turkey, where an increase of 339,000 (+50.8%) was recorded with 1 million road arrivals.

The rise from North Macedonia amounted to 324,000 (+12.8%) as road arrivals were 2.9 million, while from Albania the increase amounted to 190,000 (+14.7%) with road arrivals to be formed in 1.5 million.

First for Greece in hotel satisfaction

In October 2023, Greece ranked first against competing countries in the general hotel satisfaction index with 86%. Cyprus was in second place with 85%, and Italy and Spain were in third with 84%. Turkey followed with 83%, while France ranked last with 78%.

INSETE 's statistical report also lists Greece's individual indicators (value for money, room, service, cleanliness, location, food and drink) and its competitors for October.

In the value-for-money category, Turkey took first place with 87%, followed by Cyprus and Greece with 86%. Spain ranked fourth with 82%, followed by Italy with 81%. In last place was France with 77%.

In the room category, Italy ranked first with 89%. Cyprus was in second place with 86%, and Greece and Turkey were in third with 85%. Spain followed with 84%, while France was in last place with 76%.

In terms of service, Greece ranked first with 90%, followed by Turkey with 89%, followed by Cyprus and Spain with 88% and Italy with 87%, while in last place was France with 81%.

Regarding cleanliness, Cyprus and Italy were in first place with 93%. Turkey and Greece followed with 89% and Spain with 88%. In last place was France with 81%.

In the location criterion, Cyprus, France and Turkey were in first place with 91%. Spain followed with 90% and Greece and Italy with 89%.

In the food-beverage category, Cyprus took first place with 86%. Turkey and Greece followed with 85%, Italy with 83%, and Spain ranked last with 82%.
