Police on the island of Salamina arrested a 71-year-old man for allegedly shooting and killing his 43-year-old ex-wife with a hunting rifle at her mother's home.

According to reports, officers found the woman's body inside the residence on Aiantos Street after neighbours alerted authorities about a loud argument followed by gunshots. The victim sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen, and two empty shells were discovered near her body.

She had been residing at her mother's house after receiving police advice to move there due to a prior complaint filed against her ex-husband for domestic violence.

Authorities also recommended that the woman install a panic button on her mobile phone for emergencies.

Reports indicate that she could not activate the panic button before the attack. The suspect reportedly fired shots through a glass pane in the front door with the hunting rifle.
