Communist Party of Greece (KKE) leader Dimitris Koutsoumbas met on Monday with Ambassador of Palestinian Authority to Greece Yussef Dorkhom and expressed solidarity in the context of the ongoing Israel-Gaza war, a party announcement said.

Welcoming the ambassador, Koutsoumbas said: "We are in a period of intense popular struggles, there are many problems in the Greek economy, the people suffer and the government is continuously passing antipopular laws. However, at no point do the Greek people, the young people, and KKE and (youth party) KNE ever forget our friends, the Palestinian people."

"Every day we express our solidarity from any podium, whether in parliament, at the European Parliament, or on the streets during struggles and rallies. The murderous state of Israel continues the genocide of the Palestinian people, and from this particular angle the solidarity and rallies everywhere must become stronger," he said.

"That is why we would like to discuss and exchange views and be briefed on the latest developments in Palestine, in the war raging in the Middle East, and to see how we will further develop solidarity with the Palestinian people to end the slaughter in Gaza. KKE continues the battle for the withdrawal of the occupation troops from the Palestinian territory and for Palestine to be declared an independent and viable state at the borders of 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital," added the party leader.

On his part, the Palestinian ambassador briefed Koutsoumbas on the "dramatic situation in Palestine, the atrocities of Israel in Gaza Strip and the West Bank" and also thanked KKE "for its solidarity in action and its contribution to the large popular rallies in support of the Palestinian people who are fighting against Israeli occupation and fighting for a free country."
