Kalamata: 81 migrant men from Pakistan, Syria and Egypt arrived at the port at dawn

Kalamata

A total of 81 migrants arrived early Friday at the Port of Kalamata.

All of them had been rescued by a French-flagged cargo ship 120 n.m. south of the port of Kalamata, in a maritime area outside Greek territorial waters, when the vessel they were on was in a difficult position on December 20.

According to Proto Thema, all of them are men, including some teenagers, who claim to be citizens of Syria, Egypt and Pakistan.

They are temporarily hosted in the warehouses of the city's port, prepared by the municipality's competent services with the region's assistance. From the first moment, the local branch of the Hellenic Red Cross was also present in the port.

Their registration has begun by the Central Port Authority of Kalamata, and when the process is completed, they will depart for a migrant reception centre inland.
