ATHENS: 18-year-old murdered his younger brother over clothes

arrested, handcuffs athens

A family tragedy unfolded on Tuesday night in the Greek capital when a 16-year-old boy was murdered in his home, with the police investigating the case arresting his 18-year-old brother.

According to Proto Thema, the arrest of the 18-year-old in Athens neighbourhood of Nea Smyrni was made after the statements of the children's mother and grandmother, who said there was a fight between the two brothers.

The older brother reportedly took a pair of scissors and struck his brothers chest.

The two women said the fight started over clothes - the 16-year-old reportedly took some clothes from his brother without asking him - and the two children had a wild fight inside the house.

While their mother and grandmother were trying to separate them, the 18-year-old took a pair of scissors from the bedroom and stabbed his brother in the chest.

The tragedy was revealed shortly after 9 pm when the family's neighbours heard voices from the apartment on Stadiou Street and notified the police.

An ambulance arrived at the scene and took the 16-year-old to the People's Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

According to Proto Thema, the child suffered wounds from scissors in the chest while his mother, his grandmother, his 18-year-old brother and a friend were in the apartment.

All of them gave a statement to the police and were released, except for his 18-year-old brother, who was detained at the Nea Smyrni Department and eventually arrested.
