Museum of Children's and Adolescent Literature in Greece was inaugurated in Volos

Visitors can see, among other things, Georges Sari's typewriter, the first edition of Alkis Zei's book, manuscripts by Antonis Samarakis and other authors whose work determined its development in our country.

A different but necessary museum was inaugurated in Volos on Wednesday, January 17: The first Museum of Children's and Adolescent Literature of the University of Thessaly. The museum is now a reality, giving visitors the opportunity to see up close manuscripts, personal items, old books and magazines, rare publications, visual and audio material from the life and work of great creators.

Among other things, the typewriter of Georges Saris, the first edition of Alkis Zei's book, manuscripts of Antonis Samarakis and other authors whose work determined the development of children's literature in our country and presented abroad, are exhibited on its premises, such as Manos Kontoleon, L. Petrovits-Androutsopoulou, E. Dikaiou, T. Hortiati, G. Krokou, R. Karthaiu, etc.

The unique museum of its kind in Greece was founded in 2022 by the Senate of the University of Thessaly with the main goal of gathering, preserving, highlighting and promoting the work and archival material of authors and illustrators.

The BEL presents the historical development of children's and adolescent literature in Greece and the work of its creators while at the same time strengthening the study and research on the book in our country with the help of its rich and multimedia archive.

In addition, the visitor can see original works of book illustration and the stages of its development until the final result. Finally, the museum plans educational programs and seminars/workshops for children and adults to promote reading.
