Potts Point Gets European Eats: Apollo Group Expands with New Pizza Project

Sydney's vibrant Potts Point dining scene is set for a makeover, with the acclaimed Apollo Group preparing to launch a brand new European-inspired venture. Following the success of their Greek-focused flagship, The Apollo, this exciting newcomer promises a departure from tradition, embracing a continent's culinary bounty.

While pizza will grace the menu, this won't be your typical pizzeria. Jonathan Barthelmess, co-owner of The Apollo Group, hints at a broader European tapestry woven into the dining experience, set to debut in the second half of 2024.

Barthelmess and his partner, Sam Christie, boast a diverse gastronomic portfolio, from Christie's pioneering Thai venture Longrain to their popular Japanese restaurant Cho Cho San. Their knack for culinary exploration is evident in their Brisbane expansion, featuring Greek restaurant Greca and Japanese Yoko. They even opened an Apollo outpost in Tokyo, showcasing their passion for Greek cuisine internationally.

Returning to their Potts Point roots, the new restaurant will call Crick Avenue home, just a stone's throw from The Apollo and Cho Cho San. This neighbourhood holds a special place in their hearts, as Christie observes its changing landscape: "With more development, there's a growing diversity and a thriving scene of small bars."

This influx of fresh energy complements Potts Point's transformation from its past. Christie notes, "It's much safer than it was when we started here, and the demographics have shifted noticeably."

The upcoming announcement of the restaurant's name adds further intrigue to this culinary adventure. One thing's for sure: with the Apollo Group's track record and Potts Point's vibrant backdrop, this European foray promises to be a delectable addition to the Sydney dining scene.
