Dishes worth trying: The egg at Sense with a view of the Acropolis

SENSE Rooftop Restaurant (SENSE Modern Greek Cuisine)

Sometimes, it's hard for the food to compete with the view of the Acropolis.

Truth be told, it's so impressive that there would have to be something delicious and interesting on the plate to grab attention.

This happens, for example, at the Sense restaurant on the rooftop of the Athens Was hotel, where chef Alexandros Charalambopoulos creates a more modern and elaborate version based on Greek cuisine.

Together with his team, he prepares dishes from careful raw materials from small Greek producers, which go hand in hand with seasonality and, of course, are not lacking in deliciousness. Like for example, the egg.

We are talking about a dish with a crown-shaped base of mashed potatoes with smoked trout, a cream of Stamnagathi, another of San Michali cheese, and a poached egg in the middle.

And to top it off, there's crispy leek and an edible mock eggshell on the tip - it looks like it's been cracked and spilled. As soon as the fork touches the poached egg, it breaks, and the liquid yolk comes out like lava and reddens the dish in a charming way.

It is a dish that wants you to mix it so that all its ingredients mix and fit in one bite. A dish that calls for bread to dip into. It is a comfort dish that will win you over with the balance of its ingredients and its full flavour.

And, of course, it is not the only dish of Alexandros that will make you stop gazing at the illuminated Acropolis.

There are others on the menu, equally delicious and interesting. I highly recommend it.
