Winds reach 8 Beaufort - Firefighters worked through the night
The large fire that broke out on Saturday at 18:57 raged in the Exochora area on the northern side of Zakynthos.
Nine vehicles with 18 firefighters operated at the scene, while with the boat that runs the Zakynthos - Kyllini route, reinforcements from Patras and Kyllini arrived on the Ionian island with seven fire engines, 26 firefighters and two infantry units to contribute to the efforts of local forces.

The firefighting forces were supported by water carriers of the Municipality of Zakynthos and private ones.
Winds in the area reached 8 Beaufort with the fire heading towards the village of Maries and burning a green forest in the area. However, according to the Fire Department, no settlements were threatened.

In addition to the fire service, Zakynthos MP Dionysios Aktypis, Zakynthos Mayor Giorgos Stasinopoulos, Deputy Regional Governor Konstantinos Kapodistrias and many councilors were at the scene.
The municipal authority also issued an announcement. "Big fire in Exo Chora. Water tankers from the Municipality and construction machinery are operating at the scene, assisting the work of the Fire Department. The Civil Protection of the Municipality, the Mayor and the municipal authority as a whole provide all assistance for the immediate extinguishing".
