Tensions again in the Aegean: Barrage of Turkish NOTAM and Navtex

Turkey is reacting to a Greek naval exercise southeast of Karpathos today, claiming that the area is in... Turkish jurisdiction.

At every opportunity, Ankara continues to challenge Greek sovereignty and the sovereign rights and jurisdiction of Greece in the Aegean, even when the Greek government continues to insist that there is "normalisation" with Turkey occurring.

As the newspaper "Ta Nea" writes today, Turkey, in an anti-Navtex issued yesterday at noon, reacting to a Greek aeronautical exercise southeast of the Karpathos that is taking place today, claims that the area is in... Turkish jurisdiction and in this context relayed the coordinates to show that it is in "command" in the area between Crete and Cyprus.

Of course, Turkey did not do something similar for Greek Navtex, which has to do with a firing exercise by the British Navy on the same day, much further east...

In the same context and due to the planned execution of fire on a target at sea in Ikaria, also for today, February 20, as the newspaper writes, Turkey issued another Navtex, raising the issue of demilitarisation of all the islands of the Eastern Aegean from Thassos to Kastellorizo.

At the same time, Turkey, reacting to a Greek NOTAM that set aside an area between Lemnos, Ai-Strati, Psara and Lesvos for aeronautical exercises from February 20 to 22, proceeded to issue an anti-NOTAM in which it raised the issue of demilitarisation of Lemnos, Ai Strati and Lesvos.
