Bishop Bartholomeos Presides Over Swearing-in Ceremony of Tasmanian Consul General

His Eminence, Bishop Bartholomeos of Harioupolis, visited Hobart, Tasmania, and presided over the swearing-in ceremony of Mrs. Aikaterinis Skalidis as the new Consul General of Greece in the island state.

The ceremony took place at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, witnessed by the Greek Ambassador to Australia, Mr. George Papakostas, and the congregation. In his address, Bishop Bartholomeos stressed the importance of collaboration between the Greek state and the Church, highlighting the particularly strong cooperation seen in Australia for the benefit of the Greek community.

On behalf of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, Bishop Bartholomeos offered congratulations to Mrs. Skalidis, wishing her well in her new role. He assured her of the Archbishop’s and his own support as she undertook her important mission.

In her response, Mrs. Skalidis expressed her gratitude to Bishop Bartholomeos and Archbishop Makarios, affirming her dedication to serving the needs of the Tasmanian Greek community.

Finally, Bishop Bartholomeos acknowledged Ambassador Papakostas for his first visit to Tasmania and the appointment of Mrs. Skalidis. He emphasized the importance of the Consul General’s position for ensuring better service to the island’s Greek population.

Ambassador Papakostas reciprocated the Bishop’s sentiments, reiterating the value of unity and solidarity.
