The Transfiguration of Christ Greek Orthodox Church in Corona, New York is launching a new Spanish-speaking ministry to better serve the local Latino community. The initiative is being led by Fr. Pedro Gomez,
a newly ordained Greek Orthodox priest fluent in Spanish.

Fr. Gomez will work alongside presiding priest Fr. Chrysostom Panos to offer religious instruction (catechism) and church services in Spanish.

“Under the Archbishop’s direction,” said Fr. Elias Villis, Archdiocesan District Chancellor, “the Transfiguration community is undertaking this important outreach program. This is a significant gesture of love and inclusivity in a community where it’s particularly needed.”

Fr. Villis commended the church’s leadership for embracing the new ministry and for financially supporting Fr. Gomez’s role. “He will be an invaluable asset,” Fr. Villis added.

Fr. Gomez himself expressed his eagerness to serve. “I am ready to serve both the Greek Orthodox community and our Latino neighbours,” he said. “By my actions, I will show them the love of Christ and teach the Gospel.”
