The multi-award winning playwright Josep Maria Miró is coming to Greece

The Thision Theatre will welcome on Friday, April 12, the multi-awarded playwright Josep Maria Miró. The Catalan writer comes to Greece as an invitee of the Instituto Cervantes to attend his work: "The Nicest Body Ever Seen Around These Parts" (Premi Born Award 2020 & National Drama Award 2022).

After the performance, Josep Maria Miró will discuss his work with the audience (with consecutive translations into Greek) and present the book with his work that Ion Publications recently published. Georgia Drakaki will moderate the debate.

Who is Josep Maria Miró?

Josep Maria Miró graduated from the Department of Direction and Drama at the Institut del Teatre (Theatre Institute) in Barcelona and the Department of Journalism of the UAB (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona). Among other works, he has written The Woman Who Missed All Her Flights, Smoke, Nerium Park, and Archimedes' Principle.

For his work, he has received many awards in Spain; among them, he has been honoured three times with the Premi Born Award: in 2009, with his work The Woman Who Lost All Her Flights; in 2011, with his most successful work to date, Archimedes' Principle; and in October 2020, with a wonderful monologue (for seven voices) entitled The Nicest Body Ever Seen Around These Parts.

In October 2022, he was also awarded the National Prize for Dramatic Literature from the Spanish Ministry of Culture for his work The Nicest Body Ever Seen Around These Parts, while in March 2023, the Greek translation was awarded the Eurodram Award.

His plays have been staged in many countries, including the USA, Argentina, Mexico, England, Russia, Croatia, Puerto Rico, Greece, and Cyprus, and have been presented in theatrical form in Italy, France, Russia, and Greece.

Miró has also directed his works and been an assistant director alongside names such as Xavier Alberti and the choreographer Germana Civera. Since 2013, he has been a member of the play reading committee at the National Theater of Catalonia (TNC).

In Greece, in the 2014-2015 season, Archimedes' Principle was staged at the Argo Theater, which premiered on February 6, 2015, translated by Maria Hadjiemmanouil and directed by Thodoris Vournas.

In February 2018, Nerium Park was staged in Thessaloniki (Avlaia Theater) by the RiSko Group as part of the "Open Stage - Theatrical Voices of the City" festival, directed by Vangelis Oikonomou. In October 2021, Nerium Park, directed by Grigoris Karantinakis, was staged at Theater 104.

On 1/2/2019, Vassilis Mavrogeorgiou directed The Beginning of Archimedes, which was staged at the Skrow Theatre with Michalis Syriopoulos in the lead role. The show received rave reviews from audiences and critics and continued for the 2019/2020 season.
