King Charles III has expressed "utter shock and horror" over the tragic events that unfolded at the Bondi Junction shopping center on Saturday.

"My wife and I were deeply saddened to hear of the tragic stabbing incident in Bondi," King Charles said in a statement.

"Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of those who have been so brutally killed during such a senseless attack."

The king acknowledged the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and commended the first responders and emergency services for their bravery and dedication.

"Our thoughts are also with those who were involved in the response, and we give thanks for the bravery of the first responders and emergency services," he said.

King Charles's statement echoed the sentiments expressed by the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate, who said they were "shocked and saddened" by the incident.

"Our thoughts are with all those affected, including the loved ones of those lost and the heroic emergency responders who risked their own lives to save others," the royal couple wrote on Twitter.

In a separate statement, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the attacks as "beyond words and understanding."

"This was a horrific act of violence, indiscriminately targeted at innocent people going about an ordinary Saturday doing their shopping," he said.

NSW Acting Premier Penny Sharpe expressed her gratitude to bystanders who intervened during the incident.

"There are really more difficult days ahead," she said. "Tonight we hold in our hearts the families and the friends who have lost loved ones. This is going to be difficult, this is going to be hard for days to come."

"Tonight I want to say on behalf of the New South Wales government that we will stand with you, we will provide the support that you need in these coming days and weeks."
