Greece stands out as a top destination in a recent survey conducted by the European Travel Commission and Eurail BV, which sheds light on the promising future of Greek tourism, particularly from overseas markets.

According to the Long-Haul Travel Barometer (LHTB), which gathered insights from a diverse pool of respondents, including travellers from the United States, Australia, China, Japan, Korea, and Canada.

Among the key findings, Greece emerges as the fifth most preferred destination for American travellers alongside Austria. Australians also rank Greece among their top choices for European travel in 2024, along with other promising statistics from Canadian, Brazilian, South Korean, Japanese, and Chinese travelers.

Experts believe that these overseas markets, with populations significantly larger than Europe's, hold immense potential for driving growth and generating higher revenues for Greek tourism. Notably, travellers from these regions tend to belong to upper-income brackets, with a propensity for higher daily expenditures compared to their European counterparts.

The survey underscores three crucial factors influencing travellers' destination choices: security, quality of accommodation infrastructure, and price competitiveness. Greece's appeal lies in its ability to meet these criteria while offering a rich cultural experience and stunning landscapes.

However, some potential travellers express hesitancy toward visiting Europe in 2024, citing concerns such as the conflict in Ukraine, tensions in the Middle East, high air travel costs, and limited vacation time. Nevertheless, Greece remains a consistent favourite among those planning European travel, signalling a promising outlook for the country's tourism sector.
