Olympic Flame Handover Ceremony Set for Panathenaic Stadium

This Friday (26 April), the Olympic flame for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 will be officially handed over to a delegation from the Paris 2024 Organising Committee during a symbolic ceremony in Athens, Greece.

The official handover of the Olympic flame for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will occur at the historic Panathenaic Stadium in Athens. Scheduled for Friday, April 26th at 6:30 pm (18:30), the ceremony is open to the public.

The flame's journey begins at Ancient Olympia on April 16th, where it will be kindled in the ancient Temple of Hera by up to 30 priestesses known as 'Caryatids Kores'. These rituals invoke the mythical god Apollo to ignite the Olympic flame.

Following its lighting, the flame embarks on a symbolic journey across Greece, covering over 2,000km and carried by around 500 torchbearers. Its route culminates at the Acropolis before reaching the Panathenaic Stadium the next day. The ceremony will be globally broadcast on the official Olympic Games website.

Arriving well in advance of the 6:30 pm start time, visitors can witness a grand spectacle featuring the Greek Presidential Guard, the City of Athens Marching Band, and a performance by the 30 Caryatids Korres. The flame will then be handed over to the Paris Olympic Committee.

Those planning to attend should arrive by 5:00 p.m. for optimal viewing. Admission is free, and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. All ages are welcome to participate in this iconic event.
