The Hellenic Initiative Launches Summer Youth Academy in Greece

A unique summer camp aims to empower youth through sports.

New York, May 1—The Hellenic Initiative is thrilled to unveil its inaugural Summer Youth Academy, promising a transformative journey harnessing sports' potential for youth empowerment and leadership. Ted Leonsis, owner of several sports franchises, including the Washington Wizards, entrepreneur, and esteemed THI Board member, assumes the role of honorary Chair.

Scheduled to commence in July 2024 in Athens, the Summer Youth Academy is a collaborative endeavour with Eurohoops, a prominent Athens-based basketball organization dedicated to empowering underprivileged youth aged 14-18 through sports. Hosted at the Leonteios School of Athens, situated in the suburb of Patisia, the camp will welcome a minimum of 100 children throughout July.

The presenting sponsor is Ted Leonsis, with THI and the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation as gold sponsors and the John S. Latsis Foundation and Sprite as Silver sponsors. Noteworthy members of the Host Committee include Ted Leonsis, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, George Stamas, Andrew Liveris, Nikos Koumettis, Nikos Stathopoulos, Dean Dakolias, and Achilles Constantakopoulos.

Ted Leonsis, THI Board Member, emphasized, “THI’s Summer Youth Academy is more than just about basketball skills; it’s about mentoring these children and guiding them through life’s challenges and triumphs.”
