Dimitris Koutsoumbas, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), led a delegation of KKE party officials and candidate MEPs on a visit to Germany on Thursday. Their visit coincided with Anti-Fascist Victory Day on May 9, and they began by paying respects at the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site.

Speaking at the entrance of the former Nazi concentration camp, Koutsoumbas honoured the memory of "hundreds of thousands, millions of communist fighters of all nationalities, including our fellow Greeks, who fell victim to Nazi persecution or perished in Dachau's crematoriums and forced labour camps." He also acknowledged the imprisonment of KKE's WWII leader, Nikos Zachariadis, in Dachau.

Addressing the issue of German war reparations to Greece, Koutsoumbas asserted that efforts to seek restitution for massacres and a forced occupation loan would persist.

"We will achieve success with a strong KKE in the European elections, where decisions are made not only in the European Parliament but also through grassroots struggles that challenge these decisions," he affirmed.
