Greek Australian Debbie Voulgaris, 57, was arrested at Taoyuan International Airport in December for allegedly carrying approximately 15 pounds of cocaine in her luggage.

She initially denied any knowledge of the drugs but later claimed that her ex-husband, John, was responsible for the scheme, according to police.

In Taiwan, executions are carried out by shooting. Condemned prisoners are sedated and placed face down on a mattress. They are then shot three times through the heart or once in the back of the head if they wish to donate their organs.

If the death penalty is not imposed, Voulgaris could face a minimum of five years to life in prison.
