Greece Welcomes Bahamas and Montenegro to Acropolis Tournament

Greece is set to welcome Poland, Montenegro, and the Bahamas for a series of friendly games as part of their preparations for the upcoming FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments. The Hellenic Basketball Federation announced the schedule on Thursday.

The highlight of these preparations is the Acropolis Aegean International Basketball Tournament, where the team coached by Vassilis Spanoulis will compete.

Acropolis Aegean Schedule:

  • June 25: Greece vs. Montenegro
  • June 26: Montenegro vs. Bahamas
  • June 27: Bahamas vs. Greece

Before the three-team tournament, Greece will host Poland on June 21. The Hellenic Basketball Federation will soon announce the roster selections by Spanoulis.

These preparation games lead into the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament at the Peace and Friendship Stadium. Greece is scheduled to play the Dominican Republic on July 3 and Egypt on July 4. Finishing first or second in Group B will secure a spot in the semifinals, where they could face teams like Croatia, Slovenia, or New Zealand from Group A.

Montenegro, Poland, and the Bahamas are also gearing up for their respective Olympic Qualifying Tournaments. Montenegro will compete in Riga against Brazil, Cameroon, Georgia, Latvia, and the Philippines. Poland and the Bahamas will face Angola, Finland, Lebanon, and Spain in Valencia.

For the preliminary round of the Olympic Games, the winners of the qualifying tournaments in Greece and Spain will join Group A alongside Australia and Canada. The winner of the tournament in Latvia will join Group B with host France, Japan, and Germany.

These friendly games and the Acropolis Aegean Tournament will provide crucial preparation for all participating teams as they vie for a spot in the Olympic Games.
