Athens Municipality Secures Funding Approval for New Panathinaikos FC Stadium

Athens Mayor Haris Doukas announced on Friday a significant milestone in the construction of the new Panathinaikos FC stadium in the Votanikos section of Athens.

The Ministry of Environment and Energy's approval of a funding proposal marks a crucial step forward for the project, according to Doukas.

The decision secures 115 million euros under the National Development Plan for 2021-2025, paving the way for immediate commencement of construction on the 3.36-hectare stadium site.

"The new state-of-the-art Panathinaikos field represents a commitment we have made to its thousands of fans, as well as to the residents of the neighbourhood of Votanikos, who will see their area upgraded," said Mayor Doukas. "Securing this funding from the Ministry of Environment and Energy, following the submission of the relevant proposal by the Municipality’s General Secretariat and with the technical support of the Development and Tourism Promotion Company of Athens (EATA), clears the path for the main construction phase to begin."

The project will be overseen jointly by Athens Municipality’s Technical Service and EATA.
