ATHENS, Greece (GCT) - Popular Greek singer Marina Satti is embroiled in a copyright infringement controversy surrounding her latest album. The accusation stems from the song "Ah Thalassa," which faces claims of plagiarism from composer Miltiadis Kassaras.
According to a report on the MEGA TV show "Akoma Den Eides Tipota" (You Haven't Seen Anything Yet), Kassaras alleges that the core melody and chord structure of "Ah Thalassa" are strikingly similar to his own composition of the same title.
Yannis Nisiotis, Kassaras's lawyer, maintains that the song is not an original creation by Satti or her collaborator Lena Kitsopoulou. He asserts in the legal notice sent to Satti's record label, Minos EMI, that "Ah Thalassa" is a "clear imitation" of Kassaras's work.
"Our client seeks to restore the truth and hopes to avoid resorting to extreme measures," Nisiotis stated. He highlights Kassaras's musical background, emphasizing his role as a renowned composer and conductor and son of the late Saranti Kassaras, a pianist who collaborated with the legendary Mikis Theodorakis.
The lawsuit hinges on the alleged similarities in melody, instrumentation, and chord progressions between the two songs. Nisiotis claims this has been documented in a court ruling, though details of the ruling haven't been made public.
The outcome of this lawsuit could have significant implications for both Satti's future and the wider Greek music industry.
