MYKONOS, GREECE – Two beachgoers were injured on Saturday afternoon at Agios Stefanos beach in Mykonos after a large ship created a powerful wake that swept them off their feet.

The Coast Guard reported that the wave caused by the vessel not only injured the bathers but also overturned deck chairs and scattered beach belongings.

Captain Arrested for Reckless Operation

Upon docking at Rafina port, authorities arrested the captain of the “FAST FERRIES ANDROS” for violating regulations related to reckless operation near fixed or moving transportation (ships and aircraft) and causing negligent injury. The Mykonos Port Authority is conducting a preliminary investigation.

Social Media Calls Out Captain’s Disregard for Safety

Takis Papadakos, who posted a video of the incident on the Facebook page “Mykonos, let’s do it!”, expressed outrage at the captain’s actions. He criticized the captain’s disregard for beachgoers’ safety, prioritizing speed over caution.

Papadakos added that a woman injured in the incident sustained two broken ribs and would require further evaluation. He claims the video is part of the Port Authority’s investigation.
