Over 1 Million Foreign Tourists Expected Each Week Until the End of August

The tourist season is at its peak, and in the coming weeks, the influx from abroad is expected to reach record levels until the end of August.

According to data from Airdata Tracker, based on information from the travel data measurement company OAG, the number of scheduled seats for incoming international flights is projected to be 1.163 million for the week of August 12 to August 18. For the week of August 19 to August 25, the available seats are expected to be around 1.159 million. For this current week (up to August 11), there are 1.170 million available seats.

Compared to the same period last year, the scheduling of seats has increased by 8.4%. Overall, this month, the total available seats amount to 5.153 million. This is the highest figure recorded for the entire current summer season (from the end of March to the end of October).

Among the greatest increases compared to last year are markets from the United States (26%), the Czech Republic (50%), and Israel (14.6%). Simultaneously, all major tourism source markets for Greece are showing upward trends: the United Kingdom with a 3% increase and 988,000 available seats; Germany with an 8% increase and 801,000 seats; Italy with an 8.4% increase and 602,000 seats; and France with an 8.2% increase and 367,000 scheduled seats.

In addition, significant growth is being recorded at the airports in Heraklion (8.6% compared to last year), Rhodes (12.2%), and Corfu (9.6%).

It is noteworthy that from January to June 2024, there were 9.7 million international air arrivals, exceeding last year’s levels by 9.6% (+855,000 arrivals). At Athens International Airport, there were 3.5 million international air arrivals, showing an increase of 13.9%, at Heraklion Airport, there were 1.3 million international air arrivals with an increase of 8.6%, and at Rhodes Airport, the increase compared to last year reached 12.4%.
