A ceremonial event will mark the occasion, attended by Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias. He will be joined by General Dimitrios Houpis, Chief of the Naval Air Force, and Vice Admiral Dimitrios-Eleftherios Kataras, Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff.

The Nearchos is the second of three advanced frigates ordered by Greece, following the lead ship Kimon, with Formion still under construction. These vessels are expected to enhance Greece’s naval capabilities significantly over the coming years.

The 4,500-tonne frigate measures approximately 122 meters in length, can reach speeds of up to 27 knots, and will be manned by a crew of 120. The ship incorporates cutting-edge digital technologies, including the Panoramic Sensor Intelligence Module (PSIM), advanced anti-submarine warfare sonar (CAPTAS-4), and the fully digital Sea Fire radar system.

This launch marks a significant step in Greece's efforts to modernise its naval forces and strengthen its maritime defence capabilities in the region.
