The Greek Film Festival is making its comeback in Canberra, thanks to the collaboration between the Greek Festival of Sydney and the Hellenic Club of Canberra. This three-day event will showcase a selection of significant Greek films as part of the Greek Film Festival Australia.
After a three-year hiatus, the Greek Community of Canberra will have the chance to enjoy three screenings featuring highlights from the 29th Greek Film Festival lineup. The festival will kick off with the delightful comedy “Listen Who’s Talking” by Thodoris Niarchos on the Opening Night, scheduled for Friday, October 25, at the Palace Electric Cinema. The festivities will continue on Saturday, October 26, with the award-winning film “Murderess” by Eva Nathena and will conclude with “What If” by Christoforos Papakaliatis.
Andrew Satsias, President of the Hellenic Club, expressed enthusiasm for the festival, stating, “The Greek Festival of Sydney, in partnership with the Hellenic Club of Canberra, will present the Greek Film Festival for 2024. This event showcases some of the best offerings in Greek cinema and provides an enriching cultural experience for our audience. We congratulate the organizers and look forward to a long-lasting partnership.”
Nia Karteris, Chair of the Greek Festival and the Greek Film Festival of Sydney, emphasized the festival’s mission: “Our aim is to promote and support Greek culture beyond New South Wales. We are particularly proud to bring Greek cinema to the Canberra community through this important collaboration with the Hellenic Club.”
Harry Danalis, President of the Greek Orthodox Community of New South Wales, highlighted the significance of cooperation among Greek organizations in Australia, stating, “As our communities evolve and face challenges, it’s vital to unite in order to strengthen our cultural identity through meaningful events like the Greek Film Festival.”
