Greece has confirmed 10 outbreaks of the BTV3 bluetongue virus in sheep and goats on farms in the northeastern region, according to a report from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) released on Monday.

The information was provided by Greek authorities.

Bluetongue is a viral disease that can be fatal for domestic ruminants, including sheep, goats, and cattle. A new variant, BTV3, has been circulating in Europe since late last year, prompting vaccination campaigns in several affected countries, including France.

The current outbreak has affected 137 sheep and goats, resulting in the deaths of 15 animals. The Greek authorities are working to manage the situation and mitigate the impact of the virus on local livestock.
