In a heartfelt move, Panathinaikos owner Giannis Alafouzos is considering chartering a private plane to allow the club’s devastated players and staff to attend the funeral of George Baldock.
The 31-year-old English-born Greek international tragically passed away earlier this month after drowning in the pool of his Athens apartment.
Sources close to the Super League club have revealed that Alafouzos is exploring the logistics of making the special arrangement ahead of the funeral, scheduled for October 30. The gesture is aimed at offering support to Baldock’s heartbroken teammates as they prepare to say goodbye to their beloved colleague.

Baldock, a former Sheffield United defender, was a key figure at Panathinaikos, having joined the club after making 219 appearances for Sheffield, including 83 in the Premier League. His sudden death has left both his former and current clubs reeling with grief. The football world, including fans from Sheffield United, has expressed an outpouring of sorrow.

In addition to the potential plane charter, Alafouzos is reportedly considering honouring the remainder of Baldock’s three-year contract to provide financial security for the player’s young family. Baldock is survived by his fiancée and their young son, who had returned to the UK to celebrate their child’s first birthday just before the tragedy.
Baldock, who won 12 caps for Greece, was widely loved by fans and teammates alike, and his loss has sent shockwaves throughout the football community.
