After the largest rescue excavation ever conducted in Greece, all the detached archaeological finds were returned to their original positions.

Time is now counting down for the Thessaloniki Metro to begin operation, with interest especially around Venizelou Station as it is an open museum after the antiquities that were detached during its construction were returned to their original positions.

Visitors can see them by walking over them on uniform glass and transparent suspended floors.

The archaeological research brought to light all of the oldest buildings and time phases of Thessaloniki.

It is recalled that in the context of the construction of the Thessaloniki Metro, the largest rescue excavation research ever carried out in the Greece was carried out.

This research contributed to the reconstruction of the city’s history from its foundation in the years of Cassander, at the end of the 4th century B.C., until the beginning of the 20th century, with the most important antiquities emerging at Agia Sofia and Venizelou stations.
