Earthquake "rattles" Thessaloniki – Magnitude, epicenter in Halkidiki

A weak earthquake, which was nevertheless felt in areas of Thessaloniki

An earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale (according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre's [EMSC] automatic solution) occurred tonight, Monday into Tuesday (12/11), at 00:21 after midnight in a submarine area of the Thermaic Gulf, near the western coast of Halkidiki. The earthquake was felt in areas of Thessaloniki, especially in the city center and Kalamaria.

The revised solution of the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens gives the earthquake a magnitude of 3.8 Richter, with a focal depth of 16.2 km, and an epicenter 13 km south-southwest of Nea Moudania, Halkidiki.
