Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis addressed the precautionary closure of the Greek Embassy in Kiev during an interview with SKAI 100.3 radio on Wednesday.

Marinakis clarified that the decision was made for safety reasons amid heightened tensions in the region.

“Other countries have also closed their embassies in similar situations. There is still staff present at the embassy for security purposes, and a shelter is available on-site for their use if needed,” he said.

Marinakis also responded to remarks by former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, who claimed that his removal from a position was a premeditated decision. Rejecting the allegation, Marinakis said the decision followed a review of Samaras' interview with the newspaper Vima. He pointed out that the government had refrained from commenting on several of Samaras' previous speeches and reports, emphasizing that Samaras had been granted considerable freedom to voice his opinions and objections.

The comments highlight the government’s stance on recent political developments and its cautious approach to ensuring the safety of diplomatic staff abroad.
