Athens, Greece – Syriza, the left-wing party that once led Greece, has been overtaken by Pasok as the country’s main opposition party. This comes amidst a period of internal turmoil and leadership struggles within Syriza.
Two Syriza MPs, including Theodora Tzakri, have recently resigned from the party, further weakening its parliamentary presence. Tzakri cited the actions and tactics of the current leadership as a reason for her departure.
Former Syriza leader Stefanos Kasselakis has also left the party and is preparing to launch a new political movement.
Pasok, which lost its dominant position in 2015, has capitalized on Syriza’s decline to regain its status as the country’s second-largest party.
