Edgnex Data Centers, in collaboration with PPC Group, announces the development of a 12.5MW data center in Athens, Greece. This facility will form part of the 'Data In Scale' joint venture, blending the expertise of Edgnex’s parent company, Damac, with the energy utility PPC Group.
The Attica-based data center will undergo an initial €150 million investment to establish the first 12.5MW of capacity, with plans to expand to 25MW in future phases. Construction is scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2025, with detailed specifications yet to be disclosed.
Hussain Sajwani, Founder of Damac, highlighted the synergy between Edgnex’s agility in infrastructure delivery and Damac’s large-scale development prowess to provide secure and scalable data solutions for businesses. Georgios Stassis, PPC Group Chairman and CEO, emphasized the project's alignment with Greece’s digital transformation and the strengthening of its position in Southeast Europe’s tech ecosystem.
PPC operates across Greece, Romania, and North Macedonia, offering a wide range of electricity services, while Damac Group, which founded Edgnex in 2021, is expanding its data center footprint globally, with projects underway in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand.
Edgnex, aiming to establish a significant presence in emerging markets, is also planning data centers in Amman, Jordan, and Madrid, Spain, to cater to the increasing demand for digital infrastructure.
Athens, home to limited data center facilities, will see increased activity from major players like Digital Realty, Sparkle, Cloudrock, and Data 4. For more updates on data center developments, consider subscribing to The Data Center Construction Channel for comprehensive insights and analyses.
