The Milwaukee Bucks, led by Greek superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, claimed the Emirates NBA Cup after a commanding 97-81 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder at T-Mobile Arena.
This marks the team’s first championship in the NBA's in-season tournament, showcasing their dominance on a global stage.
Antetokounmpo, delivering a phenomenal triple-double performance with 26 points, 19 rebounds, and 10 assists, was named the tournament’s MVP. The win adds another accolade to his illustrious career, which includes an NBA championship in 2021 and multiple MVP honours.
Speaking to ESPN’s Malika Andrews, Giannis praised his teammate Damian Lillard, calling him "one of the best players" he’s ever played with. Lillard contributed significantly, scoring 23 points, including five three-pointers.

The celebratory atmosphere at T-Mobile Arena was unforgettable. Confetti rained down as Antetokounmpo lifted the trophy, delivered by Emirates Airlines staff. Medals were handed out by local YMCA children, and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver presided over the ceremony. Despite the momentous occasion, Bucks coach Doc Rivers opted for a modest beer toast instead of champagne, emphasising the team’s focus on the remainder of the season.
A Milestone for Giannis and Lillard
This victory holds special significance for Antetokounmpo and Lillard. While it is Giannis's second team trophy, it marks the first for Lillard, who lauded their growing chemistry and mutual determination to lead the team. “Whenever I need this guy, he’s always there for me, and whenever he needs me, I’m always there for him,” Giannis shared.

Dominance on the Court
Milwaukee outperformed Oklahoma City with superior shooting and defense. The Bucks shot 42 percent from the field and 42.5 percent from three-point range, outrebounding the Thunder 52-43. Lillard’s crucial three-pointer in the third quarter, following technical fouls against Thunder players, extended Milwaukee’s lead and solidified their control.
The Thunder, led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with 21 points, struggled offensively, shooting just 33.7 percent from the field and a mere 15.6 percent from beyond the arc.
A
Rewarding Achievement
As part of their victory, each Bucks player received a $515,000 bonus, a fact Giannis celebrated enthusiastically in the locker room. "Everyone got $500,000, right?" he joked while dancing with his teammates.
The Bucks’ triumph in the NBA Cup highlights their determination and sets the stage for a promising remainder of the season.
