Greece and UAE Forge Partnership on Water Resource Management

Greece and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are strengthening their ties through a new collaboration on water resource management, a critical issue in the face of climate change.

Deputy Minister of Shipping and Insular Policy Stefanos Gikas held a virtual meeting with UAE Minister of Energy and Sustainability Abdulla Balalaa to discuss the challenges of water resource management and explore potential areas of cooperation.

The two leaders agreed to establish a joint working group to advance issues of mutual interest and define specific areas of collaboration, aligning their efforts with the upcoming UN Water Conference scheduled for 2026.

"We share a strategic partnership with the UAE that spans many sectors," said Gikas following the meeting. "The impact of climate change and the alarming predictions for Greece, particularly regarding water resource management, compel us to seek reliable and effective solutions through partnerships."

This initiative reflects the broader commitment of both nations to tackle the challenges posed by climate change while fostering innovation and sustainable practices in water management.
