Greek Authorities Raid Security Company Over New Tempi Train Crash Videos

Greek police (ELAS) conducted a surprise raid late Monday night at the offices of the security company that released three newly surfaced videos related to the Tempi train disaster.

Acting on the orders of an investigating officer, authorities seized recording equipment to verify the authenticity of the footage.

The newly obtained videos are considered crucial to the ongoing investigation into the deadly collision between a passenger and a commercial train. Investigators hope the footage will help determine the cause of the explosion that followed the impact. The findings will be handed over to the appeals investigator, who may recommend additional criminal charges if new evidence emerges.

Meanwhile, questions remain regarding the role of the train engines in the post-crash fire. Last week, the appeals prosecutor submitted a report by Belgian railway expert Yves Carton, analysing whether the locomotives contributed to the blaze. European Railway Agency safety standards require fuel tanks to remain intact in collisions up to 36 km/h, but the Tempi trains crashed head-on at a staggering 260 km/h, raising serious concerns about safety protocols.

The latest developments add new urgency to one of Greece’s deadliest railway disasters, as authorities continue their search for accountability and answers.
