Due to ongoing seismic activity in the Cyclades, Athens is partnering with Airbnb.org to provide free temporary housing for up to 200 displaced families from Santorini, Amorgos, Anafi, and Ios. Athens Mayor Haris Doukas stated this initiative reflects the city’s commitment to solidarity and complements existing efforts like the children’s summer camp in Agios Andreas currently sheltering 130 residents.

Affected families needing housing in Athens should call the emergency helpline at 1595. The municipality will then coordinate with Airbnb.org to secure free accommodations for up to ten days, funded by Airbnb.org and its supporters. Eligible families will receive an email from Airbnb.org with details on how to use their housing credits.

Airbnb.org Executive Director Christoph Gorder emphasized the importance of rapid collaboration to assist those in need. The municipality and Airbnb.org will continue to monitor the situation and assess the need for further support. Individuals wishing to offer free or discounted accommodations can register as hosts via Airbnb.org.

The state of emergency declared for Santorini, Amorgos, and Anafi remains in effect, and the Santorini Port Authority has issued guidelines for incoming vessels.
