The growing impact of geopolitical crises and climate change on migration flows was a key issue highlighted by Greece’s Minister of Migration and Asylum, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, during his address at the Thessaloniki Summit 2025.

The summit, organised by the Federation of Industries of Greece in collaboration with the Delphi Economic Forum, brought together key regional stakeholders to discuss pressing global challenges.

Panagiotopoulos emphasized the strategic importance of trilateral cooperation between Greece, Cyprus, and Egypt, particularly in tackling irregular migration while fostering legal migration pathways that can benefit national economies.

“Our goal—shared by all three countries—is to control illegal migration flows while improving the organisation of legal migration, which can serve as an economic driver for our nations,” he stated.

The Minister also underscored Greece’s active role at the European Union level, advocating for more efficient mechanisms to return individuals not entitled to asylum and introducing legislative reforms to enhance the asylum process.

As migration remains a defining challenge for the region, Greece continues to push for comprehensive solutions that balance security, humanitarian concerns, and economic stability.
