A team of specialised investigators from Athens has arrived on the island of Zakynthos to probe the shocking death of a 69-year-old notary, whose body was discovered in her home’s garage on Wednesday morning.

Five officers from the Homicide Department of the Attica Security Directorate, along with three members of the Greek Police’s Criminal Investigations Division, are working alongside a forensic pathologist and local law enforcement to uncover the circumstances surrounding her murder.

The notary, who lived alone in a secluded area just minutes from the town centre, was found by her son in a pool of blood. According to police sources, she had suffered a deep stab wound to her leg, likely inflicted with a knife, which severed an artery and led to fatal blood loss.

Investigators discovered a small sum of money near the body, while the woman’s keys were located approximately 30 metres away. Authorities also identified a cut section of fencing in her yard, suggesting a possible forced entry.

As part of the investigation, police have been collecting security camera footage from the area and are scrutinising the legal cases she had recently been handling at her notary office.

The local community remains in shock as authorities intensify efforts to determine the motive behind the brutal crime and identify those responsible.
