Key Changes in 2025:
- Addition of Romania: A significant expansion of the program.
- Exclusion from Interview Waiver: Romania, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom are excluded from the interview waiver program for 2025, requiring in-person interviews for visa applications. This is due to cited security protocol updates and reciprocity conditions.
- Enhanced Security Checks: The US continues to prioritize countries with strong diplomatic ties and robust border security.
Benefits of the VWP:
- Faster Entry: Eliminates the need for visa appointments and lengthy processing times.
- Simplified Process: Apply for ESTA online, book your flight, and travel.
- Economic Impact: Facilitates millions of visits annually, boosting the US economy.
How to Apply for Visa-Free Travel under the VWP:
- Hold a valid passport from a VWP-eligible country.
- Apply for ESTA online before departure.
- Have no prior visa denials or immigration violations.

Updated Interview Waiver Policy for 2025:
While consular officers can waive interviews for certain applicants, the 2025 policy has been restricted compared to previous years. Interview waivers may apply to:
- Diplomatic and official visa holders (A-1, A-2, C-3, G-1 to G-4, NATO-1 to NATO-6, TECRO E-1).
- Applicants renewing visas within 12 months of expiration (previously 48 months).
- Applicants applying from their country of nationality or residence.
- Individuals with no prior visa refusals or ineligibilities.
Important Note: First-time applicants and those whose visas expired more than 12 months ago will require an in-person interview.
