Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has issued a strong warning of potential military action in Syria, targeting forces loyal to Damascus, if the Syrian regime endangers the Druze community. In a statement released by his office, Katz emphasized, “We will not stand by while the terrorist regime of radical Islam in Syria threatens the Druze.” He added, “Should the regime harm the Druze, they will face consequences from us.”
The Israeli military has been instructed to prepare accordingly and convey a decisive warning that any threat to the Druze will provoke a response from Israel. This preparation includes plans to defend Jaramana, a predominantly Druze city situated near the outskirts of the Syrian capital, which Katz mentioned is “currently under assault by Syrian regime forces.”
“We pledge to our Druze brothers in Israel that we will do everything in our power to shield their Druze brethren in Syria from harm and will take all necessary actions to ensure their security,” Katz reiterated.
Israeli media, citing reports from Syria, noted that Syrian authorities are currently engaged in confrontations with armed groups in the city following the launch of a security operation in Jaramana. Sources for this information include the AMPEA and the Times of Israel.
