The official video for “Asteromata,” Greece’s entry for the 69th Eurovision Song Contest, premiered today, Friday, 14 March.
Sung by Klavdia, the song won the national final on 30 January, earning her the chance to represent Greece in Basel, Switzerland, from 13-17 May 2025.
Filmed in Kozani and at the iconic Temple of Poseidon in Sounio, the three-minute video clip blends cinematic visuals with the essence of rural Greece and its seas. Resembling a painting come to life, it features a tearful mother awaiting a return, faces grappling with separation, and a young girl finding a feather—symbolizing hope and renewal. Directed by George Mpenioudakis, the video is now available on ERT’s YouTube channel.
Klavdia, joined by Arcade, composed the music, with Arcade also penning the Greek lyrics. The song fuses modern and ethnic sounds, delivering a poignant message inspired by the Pontic Greek genocide and displacement—a story close to Klavdia’s heart, given her own Pontic roots. “Asteromata” reflects the struggles of those forced to flee their homelands amid global turmoil, seeking a brighter future.
Appearing on “Proian se Eidon” earlier this year, Klavdia shared the song’s backstory, rooted in her family’s refugee experience. Her ancestors fled to the Soviet Union, where her parents were born, before returning to Greece in 1991. “‘Asteromata’ is a beautiful woman with starry eyes,” she explained, adding in another interview, “She could be one of the girls lost in the Tempi tragedy, speaking to her mother: ‘Sweet mother, don’t cry for me, even if they dress you in black.’”
Klavdia will perform in the second semi-final on 15 May 2025, carrying Greece’s hopes—and a powerful narrative—to the Eurovision stage.
