Greek Political Landscape Shifts: ND Leads, Course of Freedom Rises, Stability in Focus

A recent Opinion Poll survey conducted for Action24 reveals a dynamic shift in Greece’s political scene. The ruling New Democracy (ND) party holds a solid lead with 28.1% voter preference, outpacing its rivals by 12.2 points.

Meanwhile, the left-wing Course of Freedom (Plefsi Eleftherias) has surged into second place with 15.9%, overtaking the main opposition party PASOK, which sits at 14.3%. The poll’s range estimates ND between 26.1% and 30.1%, Source of Freedom between 14.4% and 17.4%, and PASOK between 12.8% and 15.8%.

Trailing behind are Greek Solution (Elliniki Lysi) at 11.4%, the Communist Party (KKE) at 8.3%, SYRIZA at 6%, Niki at 3.1%, and Voice of Reason (Foni Logikis) at 4.1%. In voting intention, ND secures 23.6%, followed by Source of Freedom at 13.3%, PASOK at 12%, Greek Solution at 9.5%, KKE at 7%, SYRIZA at 5%, and Voice of Reason at 3.4%, with 16.3% of respondents still undecided.

Regarding prime minister preference, Kyriakos Mitsotakis leads with 25.2%, far ahead of Cource of Freedom’s Zoe Konstantopoulou at 10.9%. PASOK’s Nikos Androulakis takes third with 6.3%, followed by Greek Solution’s Kyriakos Velopoulos at 5.8%. However, “none of the above” tops the list at 33.8%.

Public opinion on key issues also emerged. The government’s recent reshuffle left 72.5% unconvinced of a fresh start, with only 25.4% seeing it positively. Sentiment on early elections is nearly split, with 48.2% favoring the government completing its four-year term and 44.9% supporting an earlier vote. Stability remains a priority, with 77.8% deeming it essential.

The survey also addressed the fallout of the Tempi train disaster. A striking 80.2% view the mass protests as a broader message to the political system, not just the government. Eight in ten respondents feel the government has fallen short in clarifying the tragedy, while 76.1% are dissatisfied with the judicial response. Additionally, 80.7% suspect opposition parties are leveraging the disaster politically, yet 77.8% still stress the need for national stability, with only 19.2% dismissing its importance.
